Bass
Match the lure to the water temperature
Bass lures in this app are scored against a temperature band, then adjusted for clarity, wind, and the time of day. The same reading always returns the same first pick.
Cold, about 40 to 65 F
A jerkbait is in range here, and slow presentations get a bonus under 55 F. Twitch, then let it sit. A jig-and-minnow profile is the walleye version of the same idea. If the water is still in the 50s and the cover is rock, a ned rig is in range too.
Mild, about 50 to 85 F
A spinnerbait covers stained or muddy water and any wind that is not dead calm. Chartreuse shows up once the water is stained. A chatterbait is the close second on weeds. A stick worm scores well when the water is clear and you can let it fall.
Warm, about 65 to 90 F
Topwater only jumps ahead on a calm dawn or dusk in water that is not muddy. A sunny clear morning in the mid 70s on a shallow flat is the walk-the-dog window. Strong wind, muddy water, or the middle of the day pushes that bait down the list.
The top pick is free. $5 adds the next four lures, the color and the rig, a checklist, and a short game plan.
Pick for today's waterLure Picker suggests a presentation. It does not promise a bite, and it is not a substitute for local regulations. Check size, season, and tackle rules before you keep a fish.
